I was born and raised in Pennsylvania, mostly in Pennsylvania Dutch country.
While I spent many of my early years on a farm, my parents made sure that
I got a wide and deep education. In 1959 I got my first exposure to computers,
programming in FORTRAN on
an IBM 1401 computer at Armstrong Research Laboratories in Lancaster, PA.
After a stint in the Marine Corps and numerous odd jobs while I was going to
college, I started my formal
career in 1969 working with people and computers at the Connecticut Mutual
Life Insurance Company in Hartford, CT. Learning about, working with, and
teaching people how to use computers, related equipment, and software has
been a continual way of life since then.

Barbara and I have been acquaintances since 1966, close friends since 1985,
and married since 11 October, 1986. Never made a better move in my life.
Our families have been intertwined in one way or another since 1941, so
Barbara knew what she was getting into.
Or so she thought. I regard it as a personal challenge to make sure that
she gets at least one surprise per week. Keeps her young! And she returns
the favor...
